Dodgers’ Mookie Betts Gives Shoutout to Teammate Freddie Freeman for Support During Slump

Los Angeles Dodgers’ shortstop Mookie Betts has been struggling at the plate lately, but he hasn’t let it get him down thanks to the support of his teammate Freddie Freeman.

Betts, who is known for his exceptional hitting abilities, has been in a bit of a slump recently, with his batting average dropping below .200. However, instead of dwelling on his struggles, Betts has been vocal about the positive impact Freeman has had on him.

“I can’t thank Freddie enough for being there for me during this tough time,” Betts said. “He’s been a great teammate and friend, always offering words of encouragement and advice.”

Freeman, who plays first base for the Atlanta Braves, has been a consistent performer at the plate, currently boasting a .300 batting average. But it’s not just his on-field success that has impressed Betts.

“Freddie’s leadership and support off the field have been just as valuable to me,” Betts added. “He’s a true team player and I’m grateful to have him as a teammate.”

The two players have a strong bond, having played together on the National League All-Star team in 2019 and facing each other in the World Series last year. Despite being on rival teams, their friendship has remained strong.

The Dodgers’ Mookie Betts Thanks Freddie Freeman for Support During Slump

The Los Angeles Dodgers may have lost their most recent series to the St. Louis Cardinals, but there was a big resurgence in their lineup. While all eyes may have been on Shohei Ohtani’s impressive pitching and hitting performance on Wednesday, Dodgers superstar Mookie Betts has also been making a comeback. And he has Freddie Freeman to thank for his support.

“We all know who Freddie is and what he’s done,” Betts told reporters, expressing his gratitude towards the Atlanta Braves’ first baseman. “It’s good to talk to someone who’s in the grinder with you. He’s just there, and he’s supporting me. I just run things by him. He’s always there for me. He’s always been there. I love him for that.”

Betts had been struggling since the All-Star Break, hitting only .148 with a dismal .411 OPS and just 3 RBI in his first 14 games. This dropped his season batting average to .231 with a .657 OPS. However, on Tuesday, he broke out of his slump with a three-hit day, including a double. He also picked up another hit in the loss on Wednesday.

During this same period, Freeman was also struggling at the plate, posting a .170 batting average in 13 games between July 5 and July 22. But since July 23, he has bounced back with a .396 batting average and .967 OPS. It seems that the conversations between Freeman and Betts have helped them both as the Dodgers continue their season.

The Dodgers have been struggling as of late, allowing the San Diego Padres to close the gap in the NL West. With just a 2.5-game lead in the division, LA needs to step up their game. Last year, they let the Padres and the Arizona Diamondbacks back in the race, but managed to come out on top. They will face the red-hot Toronto Blue Jays in a home series starting on Friday.
