Nolan Gorman’s Single Secures Cardinals’ Victory over Cubs in Series Finale

In a thrilling game on Sunday night, the St. Louis Cardinals defeated the Chicago Cubs 3-2 to wrap up their three-game series. The winning run was scored by Nolan Gorman, who singled in the seventh inning to knock out Cubs pitcher Shota Imanaga.

Imanaga had a strong performance, striking out nine batters and giving up only four hits in 6 2/3 innings. However, he was ultimately replaced by Sonny Gray, who threw seven innings and allowed two runs on five hits to earn the win for the Cardinals.

Despite giving up a walk and two singles in the ninth inning, JoJo Romero managed to record his third save of the season. He was aided by a caught stealing and a groundout to escape a potential game-tying situation.

The Cardinals had taken an early lead with a home run from Pedro Pagés in the third inning, followed by another run in the fourth. However, the Cubs fought back with a home run from Matt Shaw in the fifth to tie the game at 2-2.

One of the key moments of the game came in the fourth inning when Cubs player Pete Crow-Armstrong was picked off by Gray after stealing second base. This was Gray’s 16th home start of the season, and the Cardinals have an impressive 13-2 record in those games.

Next up, the Cardinals will face the Colorado Rockies with Miles Mikolas on the mound, while the Cubs will travel to Toronto to take on the Blue Jays and their pitcher José Berríos. This article is brought to you by CBS News and the Associated Press. All rights reserved.
