The crowd in Tampa was in for a treat on Friday night as Miles Mikolas took the stage for his 2025 road show. Hit after hit, the audience was captivated by the Cardinals’ pitcher’s performance. However, it was not a night of celebration for the Cardinals as Mikolas struggled on the mound, allowing 10 hits and only getting eight outs. The Rays took advantage of this early attack and secured the victory.

Miles Mikolas Struggles on the Road, Cardinals Fall to Rays 10-6
In a disappointing performance, Miles Mikolas (6-10) gave up 10 hits and five runs (four earned) in just 2 2/3 innings on Friday night in Tampa. The Rays took advantage of Mikolas’ struggles, hitting four home runs and ultimately defeating the Cardinals 10-6.
The Struggle Continues for Mikolas on the Road
Mikolas’ struggles away from Busch Stadium continued as he fell to 0-5 on the road since May 28. In 13 road starts this season, he has allowed 45 earned runs in 59 2/3 innings, resulting in an ERA of 6.79. Opponents have also had success against Mikolas, posting a .327 average and hitting 17 home runs in those games.
Rays’ Early Attack Leads to Victory
The Rays wasted no time in taking advantage of Mikolas’ struggles, scoring two runs in the first inning and another in the second on home runs. Mikolas was unable to make it out of the third inning, giving up two more runs before being pulled from the game.
Church Provides a Bright Spot for Cardinals
Despite the loss, there were a few bright spots for the Cardinals. Nathan Church, in just his second major league game, recorded his first two career hits, including a home run. Willson Contreras also hit his 19th home run of the season, extending his streak to three consecutive games with a home run.
Rays’ Offense Proves Too Much for Cardinals
The Cardinals attempted a comeback in the seventh inning, scoring four runs to close the gap to 7-6. However, the Rays’ offense proved to be too much, scoring in six of the eight innings they batted. The Cardinals were unable to record another hit after Church’s home run in the seventh.
Gorman’s Struggles Continue
Nolan Gorman’s struggles on defense continued as he committed his fifth error of the month and seventh of the season. Gorman has primarily played third base, where he has made six of his seven errors.

The Cardinals will have a rare Saturday off due to a Tampa Bay Buccaneers football game taking place next to the Rays’ stadium. The series will conclude on Sunday with Adam Wainwright taking the mound for the Cardinals.
