The Braves came out strong on Friday night at Busch Stadium, looking like they were ready to ambush the Cardinals. However, after taking a commanding 6-2 lead, they had to fight to hold on for a 6-5 victory.

It was a hot and muggy night on the banks of the Mississippi River, but designated hitter Sean Murphy didn’t let the weather slow him down. He belted two home runs and drove in three runs, leading the Braves to victory.

Ronald Acuna Jr. also had an impressive performance, with two doubles and a three-hit night. Jurickson Profar and Drake Baldwin also contributed with two hits each, helping to secure the win for the Braves.

The Braves bullpen was put to the test, as they were called upon to throw six innings. This was a curious development, as the team has yet to announce a starter for Saturday or Sunday in the weekend series.

Braves’ Bullpen Shines in 6-2 Victory over Cardinals, Murphy Hits Two Homers

In a thrilling game against the Cardinals, the Braves’ bullpen stepped up to secure a 6-2 victory. But it was catcher Murphy who stole the show with two home runs, leading the team to their 41st win of the season.

Ronald Acuña Jr. was on fire, hitting two doubles and a single in the game. Jurickson Profar and Drake Baldwin also had impressive performances with two hits each. The Braves’ bullpen worked tirelessly for six innings, a surprising turn of events as the team had not announced a starter for the weekend series.

Enyel De Los Santos and Austin Cox were the unsung heroes of the bullpen, pitching two scoreless innings and a perfect sixth inning respectively. Rafael Montero and Pierce Johnson also contributed to the team’s success, with Montero stranding two runners in the seventh and Johnson working a 1-2-3 eighth inning.

Raisel Iglesias sealed the deal in the ninth, setting down the Cardinals in order and earning his 10th save of the season. The Braves’ record in one-run games improved to 12-23 with this win.

The Braves started off strong in the first inning, scoring a run against Cardinals’ starter Matthew Liberatore. Acuña led the charge with a double, followed by an RBI single from Austin Riley. But it was Murphy who stole the show with a 437-foot home run, his 14th of the season, making it 3-0 for the Braves.

The Cardinals fought back in the bottom of the first, with Alec Burleson and Willson Contreras each driving in a run to make it 3-2. But the Braves weren’t done yet, with Acuña hitting an RBI single in the second inning to extend their lead.

Murphy continued his impressive performance in the third inning, hitting his second home run of the night on the 13th pitch he saw from Liberatore. Baldwin also contributed with an RBI single, giving the Braves a comfortable 6-2 lead.

Liberatore was pulled after just three innings, charged with six earned runs on nine hits. On the other side, Braves’ starter Grant Holmes struggled, giving up five earned runs in three innings. But with the help of the bullpen, the Braves were able to hold off the Cardinals and secure the win.

Murphy, who hit two home runs in one game for the first time in his career, credited the bullpen for their outstanding performance. “The bullpen are the heroes tonight,” he said. “Drake got all those guys through it with no runs and kind of stopped the little momentum that they had. Full credit to those guys.”

The Braves will look to continue their winning streak in the rest of the weekend series against the Cardinals. With this impressive victory, they have proven that they are a force to be reckoned with in the league.
