New Pitcher Brandt Thompson Leads Cardinals to Victory

In our Cardinals Nation update, we have exciting news to share. New Springfield pitcher Brandt Thompson made his Double AA debut on Wednesday night and led the team to victory.

Thompson, who played his last two seasons of college ball at Missouri State, was picked by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 17th round of the 2024 draft.

In his debut game in San Antonio, Thompson pitched into the seventh inning, giving up only one run on five hits and striking out four batters. He will return to Hammons Field next week to pitch on the same mound he once played on as a Bear.

Thompson joins a handful of Missouri State Bears who have been drafted by St. Louis and then returned to Hammons Field to play for the Springfield Cardinals. One of those players is Joey Hawkins, who is now the head coach of Missouri State’s baseball team.
