The Yankees’ Paul Goldschmidt Gives Positive Injury Update Despite Friday Absence

The New York Yankees are set to face off against the St. Louis Cardinals on Friday, but they will be without first baseman Paul Goldschmidt in the starting lineup due to a knee injury. However, Goldschmidt has shared some positive news about his current status.

In a pre-game interview with media members, the 37-year-old slugger stated that he should be available off the bench, according to Jeff Jones of Bellville News-Democrat. Goldschmidt also expressed confidence that he will not need to be placed on the injured list.

The five-time Silver Slugger Award winner initially suffered the knee injury during the Yankees’ 9-1 victory over the Minnesota Twins on Tuesday. He was then ruled out for the following game on Wednesday, which resulted in a 4-1 loss to the Twins.

While it is possible that Goldschmidt may remain on the bench for the entire series against the Cardinals, the fact that he is able to play in a bench role is a good indication that his injury is not too serious. Ultimately, the decision to return to the starting lineup will be made by Goldschmidt and manager Aaron Boone.

With the Yankees currently fighting for a playoff spot, it is crucial for Goldschmidt to avoid a stint on the injured list and return to the lineup as soon as possible. He has been a consistent performer throughout his career, and this season is no exception. So far, Goldschmidt has recorded a .276 batting average and .331 OBP with 110 hits, 10 home runs, and 40 RBIs in 398 at-bats.

The Yankees’ game against the Cardinals, Goldschmidt’s former team, will begin at 8:15 p.m. EST. The three-game series will take place in St. Louis, and the Yankees will not play at home again until August 21, when they face off against the Boston Red Sox in a four-game series.
