Left Field Proves to be a Struggle for the Los Angeles Dodgers
It’s no secret that the Los Angeles Dodgers have been facing some challenges in left field this season. In fact, it’s been a downright blackhole for the team. Despite their efforts to strengthen the position by signing Michael Conforto to a hefty one-year, $17 million contract, the former All-Star has failed to live up to expectations and provide the much-needed boost to the bottom of their lineup.
According to Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic, the Dodgers are now actively scouring the trade market for potential upgrades in left field. Their main focus? A left-handed hitting outfielder to balance out their lineup.
It’s clear that the Dodgers are not satisfied with the current state of their left field situation. With Conforto struggling and no clear replacement within their own roster, they are determined to make a move and find a solution to their woes.
As the trade deadline approaches, all eyes will be on the Dodgers and their pursuit of a left-handed hitting outfielder. Will they be able to secure a deal and solidify their lineup? Only time will tell.
Dodgers Eyeing Cardinals’ All-Star Brendan Donovan as Outfield Upgrade
Left field has been a major struggle for the Los Angeles Dodgers this season, but they may have found a potential solution in St. Louis Cardinals’ All-Star Brendan Donovan. The Dodgers, who signed Michael Conforto to a one-year, $17 million contract in hopes of bolstering their lineup, have been disappointed with his performance so far. Conforto, once an All-Star, has been one of the worst outfielders in baseball, with a dismal .185 batting average and just eight home runs and 23 RBIs.
According to Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic, the Dodgers are actively searching the trade market for a left-handed hitting outfielder to upgrade their struggling left field production. And one name that has caught their attention is Brendan Donovan, who is having a career season in 2025. The 28-year-old second baseman boasts a .296 batting average, nine home runs, and 42 RBIs in 96 games. He also leads all second basemen with a 2.5 WAR and ranks second with a 125 WRC+.
While Donovan may not be a traditional outfielder, he does have experience playing in the outfield, with 186 games under his belt. This includes 163 games in left field, making him a viable option for the Dodgers. His addition would not only provide a much-needed upgrade in left field, but also add a unique element to the Dodgers’ lineup and defensive versatility. He can hit anywhere in the batting order and also fill in for Max Muncy at third base or Mookie Betts at shortstop.
As the MLB trade deadline approaches, the Dodgers are in need of a boost and Donovan could be the perfect addition to their roster. This story was first reported by Athlon Sports on July 26, 2025.
